Restylane Family of Fillers
Restylane in Beverly Hills
The Restylane family of dermal fillers was first approved by the FDA in 2003 and has become a favorite method of wrinkle reduction and volume restoration since that time. All of these Restylane products contain hyaluronic acid (HA) in order to provide support to the underlying dermal structure and create a smoother, wrinkle-free appearance.
With a broad range of formulas to choose from regarding thickness and consistency, it is easy to customize your Restylane treatment to your desired outcome. Dr. Mashhadian offers the full range of Restylane products to his patients to ensure they can find the product just right for them.
What is Restylane?
The Restylane family is a line of fillers containing hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance produced naturally by the body. HA provides support and hydration to the skin cells. Over time, decreased levels of our natural hyaluronic acid lead to skin laxity, dryness and the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. By restoring hyaluronic acid to the deeper dermal layers, we can efficiently reduce lines and wrinkles from the inside out.
Thanks to a variety of formulas, these treatments can be used to smooth away signs of aging around the nose, mouth, chin, cheeks, and midface. Since the body reabsorbs the hyaluronic acid over time, Restylane treatments are considered temporary and need to be repeated periodically to maintain a more youthful appearance.

The Restylane Family
There are numerous options in the Restylane family to ensure we can meet all the aesthetic goals of our patients:
The original Restylane formula is the treatment of choice for stubborn wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Popular treatment areas for Restylane injections include:
- Nasolabial creases that run from the nose around the corners of the mouth
- Small vertical lines that extend in the outer corners of the mouth
- Marionette lines the begin at the mouth and run down the chin to the jawline
Original Restylane is also one of the products in this line that is FDA-approved for adding subtle volume to the lips. Dr. Mashhadian will examine your precise needs to determine whether Restylane is the right choice for you. Results from this filler can be seen right away and typically last up to 18 months.
The ultra-smooth formula of Restylane Silk is specifically designed to fill out thinning lips and add definition and volume to lips that never had the fullness you wanted. In addition to plumping up your pout, this treatment works to smooth away fine lines around the mouth that can contribute to an aged look. Vertical lines above the upper lip often referred to as lipstick lines, can be significantly improved with this formulation. Results of Restylane Silk last around six months, or even longer for some patients.
Facial wrinkles are not the only signs of aging that cause concern for people. Loss of volume in the underlying tissue due to depletion of vital substances like hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin can also be a problem. This issue is particularly prevalent in the midface, where less fullness can lead to a lack of definition along the cheekbones and hollowing that exacerbates an aged, weary appearance. Restylane Lyft was created to add the volume and lift that is often lost in the middle of the face, creating a more youthful look and facial profile. Results appear immediately after treatment and may last up to 12 months before another treatment session is needed.
Refyne and Defyne are the two newest products to be added to the Restylane family, featuring an innovative technology known as XpresHAn that enhances the results of your treatments further. The unique crosslinking in this formula ensures you can make natural facial expressions after therapy without compromising the positive anti-aging results you want. Refyne works well on moderate wrinkles, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines, with results that may last up to one year.
Defyne offers the same revolutionary technology as Refyne, but the crosslinking in this formula allows for the treatment of even deeper facial creases without interfering with your ability to make natural facial expressions. Dr. Mashhadian will determine whether Refyne or Defyne will produce the best results for you. The results you achieve with Defyne should last about one year.
Injections and Recovery*
Dr. Mashhadian performs all Restylane injections at Rodeo Surgical Art, usually taking just a few minutes to complete treatment. The selected formula will be strategically placed in different areas to ensure a smooth and natural result. There should be little discomfort during your session since all the products contain a small amount of lidocaine that numbs the injection area as the solution is administered. Topical numbing cream can also be applied to sensitive areas if you are worried about your comfort level.
Dr. Mashhadian uses the cannula method to administer all his dermal fillers, instead of a sharp needle that can damage tissue and blood vessels. This approach, which employs a tiny tube inserted underneath the skin’s surface, also minimizes potential bruising and swelling after treatment to improve the patient experience during and after the procedure.
A regular schedule can be resumed as soon as your treatment is over, without any restrictions on your activities. You will see a quick improvement in your appearance after your injections, and those results should improve in the days following your procedure. The duration of your results will depend upon the specific formula used, the treatment area and the speed in which your body metabolizes the hyaluronic acid.
