How Does Kybella® Work?

A sculpted jawline is often associated with professional confidence, personal health, and vital youth. Unfortunately, we’re all subject to the aging process, which for some means a double chin. The chin is the most difficult area to shape because it is unaffected by a healthy diet and exercise, and previously, the only answer was a face or neck lift. Now patients don’t have to choose between surgery or living with a double chin. Kybella is available at Rodeo Surgical Art for the treatment of double chins.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella’s active ingredient is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Our bodies naturally produce this molecule for the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. Kybella applies this principle to target fat cells and disrupt their membranes, causing cellular death. Your body then metabolizes these cells out of your system naturally. Your double chin is melted away, restoring a sculpted jawline without invasive procedures, long recovery time, or discomfort.

While Kybella is FDA-approved for the treatment of submental fullness, it’s designed to target small, concentrated areas of fat. These fat pockets can occur anywhere on the body, such as under the arms, behind the knees, or the bra line. As long as the treatment area isn’t too large, Kybella can reduce the fat pockets.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Kybella is intended for reducing small, localized areas of fat, but it does not have skin tightening properties. Patients concerned about a double chin or other fat pockets who have realistic expectations are ideal candidates. Consult with Dr. Mashhadian to learn more information.

What is the Treatment Like?

Your treatment begins with Dr. Mashhadian marking the treatment zone with dots to guide the injection process for the greatest sculptural impact. Ice packs are applied to smooth fat cells and keep them stationary during the precisely placed injections. Kybella is then administered to the depth of the fat layer. Dr. Mashhadian takes extra care to ensure patient comfort, so you shouldn’t feel pain beyond the pinch of the needle. The treatment requires only minutes to complete. The number of injections changes based on the patient’s unique anatomy. You may need as few as 20 or as many as 50 individual injections.

 How Long Do Results Last?

We are born with a fairly static number of fat cells, and throughout our lifetime, we don’t produce more. Once your damaged submental fat cells are absorbed by your body, no new fat cells will replace them. That means once your double chin is gone, it is most likely gone for good. A healthy lifestyle will help keep remaining fat cells from growing in size, so you can enjoy a sculpted, youthful jawline for the rest of your life.

Because the body takes time to break down the fat cells and metabolize them, results are not instantaneous. You can expect visible fat reduction after 2-3 treatments, continuing for 3-4 weeks after your last session.

Is There Any Downtime?

You may experience 1-2 days of tenderness at the injection site, but your normal, active lifestyle is not disrupted.

Dr. David Shahram Mashhadian performs each Kybella treatment himself and is one of the most experienced cosmetic surgeons in the Beverly Hills, West Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Malibu area. Dr. Mashhadian combines his passion for art and cosmetic rejuvenation into his practice and treatment of his patients, and as such, is a highly sought after, renowned cosmetic surgeon.
