Standard, Mini or Liquid Facelift: Which is Right for You?
The facelift has long been the go-to procedure for rejuvenating the face and restoring a youthful appearance and profile. Today, there are a variety of facelift techniques that allow this procedure to be customized to the unique needs and aesthetic goals of each individual patient. Before you schedule your initial consultation, it is helpful to know what your options are in facelift procedures so you can make the best choice for you.
This surgical procedure tends to be the most invasive, but it also produces the most dramatic results. Incisions for a standard facelift tend to be longer, extending from the temple, around the ear and into the lower hairline. During this procedure, underlying muscles and tissues are adjusted before skin is replaced over the area, to provide a natural result and avoid the “windswept” look of facelifts past. Recovery from a standard facelift is approximately two weeks, but it may take as long as six months to see the full results of the procedure.
The mini facelift is also a surgical procedure, but it is less invasive than a standard facelift. Incisions for this procedure are much shorter, typically beginning at the temple and curving around the ear. This procedure is more focused on removing loose, hanging skin than with adjusting the underlying facial structure. Recovery from a mini facelift is generally quicker, with most patients returning to work and regular activities within one week.
A liquid facelift is a non-surgical procedure that affects the appearance of the face via injections designed to relax facial muscles, smooth away wrinkles and restore lost volume. A combination of dermal fillers like Juvederm and Radiesse and nueromodulators like Botox and Dysport are used to address specific areas in need of enhancement. This procedure takes just a few minutes to complete and does not require any downtime afterward.
Making the Choice
Choosing the best procedure for you will depend on a number of factors, including your specific concerns, the severity of your aging symptoms and your ability to tolerate surgery safely. As a general rule, younger patients with mild to moderate signs of aging will benefit most from a liquid or mini lift, while older patients with moderate to severe signs of aging will likely need a standard facelift to achieve satisfactory results.
